Diet: Lambrose dragons are omnivorous, but primarily eat red meat and seafood. Tuna is especially common on the coastlines, where it is filling, inexpensive, and plentiful. However, some Lambrose dragons do end up suffering from mercury poisoning from eating too much tuna. Like most civilized creatures, Lambrose dragons prefer their meat and seafood cooked.
Description: A specie of dragon, Lambrose dragons are recognizable by their feathered wings, distinctive wing markings, and broad, soaring flight. They are quadrupeds and walk on all four legs. Without their feathers, Lambrose dragons have long membrane wings with stunted wing fingers, and are incapable of flight. In addition to their feathered wings, Lambrose dragons have flank feathers (which are akin to traditional bird tail feathers), and a small fan of feathers at the end of their tail.
Lambrose dragons can be noted for their long necks, dished faces, and two main horns with a smaller horn beneath them on the jawline.
Sexual Dimorphism: Females tend to be slightly larger than males. Males are often more muscular, especially in the shoulders, and have slightly longer secondary horns. Males are more likely to have markings on their flank and tail feathers than females.
Colors and Markings: Lambrose dragons come in shades of warm green, blue, and orange most commonly, although may also be albino, shades of grey, black, and mulberry purple. On the top side of the wing, the primary and secondary coverts are white, with a large oval marking that covers part of the secondary covert and secondary feathers. This marking is a bright orange or red, although yellow has been seen. The flank and tail feathers typically do not have any markings, but the tail feathers may be trimmed with the same color as the wing’s oval marking. Other white markings are common, and can range from minimal to extensive. Typically, white markings start on the jawline, neck, and belly, and grow from there. The eyes can be green, lavender, blue, or gold.
Common Magical Abilities: Lambrose dragons are not particularly magical. They, like most creatures, have one or two abilities. Telepathy is incredibly common, as it helps them communicating while flying. Aerokinesis is also common, as it increases their ability to fly on thermals. Other abilities vary among individuals.
Physical Abilities: Lambrose dragons can breathe fire for short distances, about 5-10 feet. They can do it for as long as a normal exhalation, but cannot do it for long periods of time. Lambrose dragons can use their fire for self-defense or offensive attacks, but the vast majority of Lambrose dragons use their fire for cooking or other household applications.
Like the vast majority of dragons, their yellow-white fire is not a magical ability, but rather created from a gas-filled organ called the fire stomach. If this organ is punctured, it can poison the dragon slowly. The gas is lit by reacting with oxygen, so a punctured fire stomach that touches air will often ignite, leading to the fast death of the dragon.
Lambrose dragons have long, broad wings and primarily fly by soaring on thermals. The flightless membrane wings are covered completely in feathers, allowing the dragons to fly, as well as protecting them from colder temperatures. The feathers are made out of keratin, but this type of keratin is more similar to the dragon’s scales than the keratin found in bird feathers. This means that a Lambrose dragon’s wings are fireproof, and repel water easily.
In flight, Lambrose dragons prefer to flap their wings as little as possible, as this requires a lot of energy. Their flank feathers and tail feathers help them stabilize their flight. While they are elegant endurance fliers, Lambrose dragons are not agile, and cannot make sharp turns or increase altitude quickly.
On the ground, they are inelegant, slow walkers. They have two natural gaits: the walk, and a cat-like gallop. Their long hind legs make a trot incredibly awkward, physically demanding, and horribly clumsy.
Lambrose dragons have keen eyesight. However, almost all Lambrose dragons are far-sighted. This leads them to gaze down at creatures and objects without bending their neck downwards. They have a weak sense of smell, but excellent hearing.
Reproduction: One to three eggs which hatch after about 30 to 40 days. Eggs are cream colored with pale blue speckles, and are three feet tall. A fledgling’s wings are covered in a soft down, and flight feathers begin coming in around six months.
